Nominate Someone for Candlelight

Candlelight tells the stories of ordinary Indians doing quiet, unglamorous work that helps others. If you know someone like that, tell us.

Who belongs in Candlelight

Candlelight is for people who help others without waiting to be noticed. They are not famous and are not trying to be. They might be:

  • a retired teacher running free evening classes from her verandah;
  • an auto driver who gives free night rides to patients;
  • a student who spends weekends teaching sign language to the families of deaf children;
  • a shopkeeper who keeps a shelf of free medicines for neighbours who cannot pay.

Scale does not matter. If the work changes life for even a few people, it matters to us.

Who we do not cover

To keep Candlelight honest, we do not profile celebrities, influencers seeking publicity, political campaigns or corporate CSR programmes. We do not accept payment, and we never publish a profile that someone has paid or lobbied for.

What happens after you nominate

  1. We read every nomination. Our team looks at what the person does and who it helps.
  2. We get in touch. If we would like to tell the story, a reporter contacts you first, and then the person you nominated.
  3. We verify. We meet or speak with the person, talk to the people their work has helped and check the facts.
  4. We ask permission. We publish only with the person’s consent. They can say no, and we will respect that.

Good reporting takes time, so it may be several weeks before you hear from us. We cannot tell every story, but every nomination helps us understand where good work is happening.
