Editorial Standards & Corrections

The standards every India People Blog story is held to, how we use technology in the newsroom, and how we correct mistakes.

Accuracy

Every fact we publish must be checked. We verify claims against original documents, official records and people with direct knowledge. If we cannot verify something, we say so, or we do not publish it.

Sources

We name our sources whenever we can. We grant anonymity only when a source faces real risk to their safety or livelihood, and when the information cannot be obtained another way. An editor must know the identity of every anonymous source.

Fairness

People and organisations we criticise get a fair chance to respond before publication, and their response is reflected in the story.

Dignity and consent

We tell people’s stories with care. For Candlelight and Third Eye, we seek the consent of the people at the centre of a story. We take particular care with children, survivors of violence and people in vulnerable situations, and we follow Indian law on protecting the identities of minors and survivors.

Headlines and images

Headlines must reflect the story. We do not use misleading thumbnails or clickbait. Photographs are not altered beyond standard adjustments, and we never present AI-generated images as real photographs.

Technology and AI

We use technology to work faster, never to replace editorial judgement. IPB News uses AI tools to help summarise and rewrite reports from established news sources, and every such story passes a two-stage human review before it is published. Our features, profiles and podcast are reported and written by people. Where AI has meaningfully helped with a piece, beyond tasks like transcription or translation, we say so.

Corrections

When we make a mistake, we correct it quickly and openly.

  • Factual errors are corrected in the story, with a note at the end explaining what changed and when.
  • Significant errors that change the meaning of a story are noted at the top.
  • We do not silently delete stories. If a story must be removed for legal reasons or to protect someone’s safety, we explain that we have done so wherever we can.
  • Spelling, grammar and minor style fixes are made without a note.

Requesting a correction

Write to contact@indiapeopleblog.com with the subject “Correction”, or use our contact form. Include the link to the story, what is wrong and how you know. We review every request and aim to respond within three working days.
