West Bengal health panel moves to set hospitals Covid-19 test guidelines

The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) had set up an expert committee by comprising senior doctors. By implementing pathological tests-related guidelines for private hospitals. While treating the COVID patients after coming to know the several instances of overcharging.

The commission’s orders are followed in private hospitals. It states that it has come across several instances of hospitals by charging hefty amounts for pathological tests. Some of which, it felt as unnecessary.

The trigger was the case of a private hospital in Dum Dum, the bill which was sent of Rs 22 lakh for treating a COVID patient.

They had gone through the bill Of the Rs 22 lakh, Rs 7 lakh alone was on account of pathological tests, which was said by the Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee, the commission’s chairperson. They were getting the reports and the same tests were repeated and the amount was very costly and the hospitals were giving pressure on the financial burden on the patient.
