Munawar Faruqi upon quitting Comedy

November 29, 2021 By India People Blog

Born in Junagadh, Gujarat. Munawar Faruqi is a victim of religious biases, who was arrested by the Indore Police in a case for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and was in jail for almost a month earlier this year. On February 7,
he was released from the Indore central jail after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the case. Even
after his release, he was allegedly targeted by many right-wing parties. Series of threats, abuses regarding
his shows and family has now been part of his life as according to him.

Later this week, he wretched out his grief over social media, after his scheduled show stands to cancel.
Munawar Faruqi was supposed to perform at Good Shepherd Auditorium on Sunday with his show
titled ‘Dongri to Nowhere’. The Bengaluru police had asked the organisers to call it off citing ‘law and
order issues by pointing him as a ‘controversial figure’.

Breaking silence against injustice. Munawar inked on Instagram ” Nafrat jeet gayi, Artist haar gaya, I’m
done, Goodbye…” Adding to this he pours his bard of coercion regarding his stage shows, this is not the
first time that a show of mine stands cancelled, a total of 12 shows and that too in 2 months. Our team has
sold 600 tickets.

A minute after his post a holocaust of velitation began. Upon categorizing him as a ‘controversial figure’
netizens sprinkle their support over the Right to freedom of speech. And upon the Incompetency of
frontier warrior to handle the threats and vandalize of venue and audience in a wrong way. TM Krishna
a Chennai based author cum social activist on his Twitter pinged, “Ashamed of this India, a country that
will bully, hound and push an artist to the brink… ” Instead to providing security and assurance of safe
show. Police issued a late-night notice on Saturday eve to cancel Sunday’s scheduled show. The artist
Munawar Faruqui returned back from Bengaluru without addressing the audience over the stage.
