Hijab row updates…
Recently, the Karnataka Government had declared that no student would be allowed to wear any religious piece of clothing to educational institutions. This included saffron scarves, hijabs, religious flags and any such type of attire.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had received some comments regarding dress code in Karnataka’s schools and colleges. The former informs that “motivated comments on internal issues are not welcome”. Furthermore, sources have also informed that the dress code in some schools and colleges in Karnataka is a matter that is being discussed in the Karnataka High Court.
The controversy had started in late December when a few women students were not allowed to enter a pre-university college in Udupi, the reason being their hijab. Counter acting, other students started wearing saffron scarves.
The row started spreading in other educational institutions of the mentioned state and took a violent turn in some parts. As a result, the Govt. had to declare a three day holiday for all the educational institutions.
