Varanasi’s school for the blind to be shut down, students in dismay

Students of Shri Hanuman Prashad Poddar Andh Vidyalaya are immensely distressed after discovering that their school might get shut down permanently.

This is the only school for the children who are visually impaired in the entire Purvanchal.

A representative of the Sri Hanuman Prashad Poddar Smriti Sewa Trust, which runs the school said that they had to take the decision to close the school because it’s been two years that there has been a delayed payment of government grant, and the lack of donation also proves to be quite problematic.

They are set to stop the teaching of class 9 to 12, but the students have different reason altogether, on being asked they inform that the school is going to be demolished and a mall is going to be constructed in its place. In a letter sent to every class 9 to 12 students have been asked to take admissions in other schools.

The School’s trust Joint Secretary has repudiated the claims by the students.
