The bewitching beaches of Kavaratti
A tiny speck of land in the vast blue expanses of the Arabian Ocean embellished with the natural greenery of coconut trees and shrubbery on the pearly white beaches. At a glance, Kavaratti is nothing exceptional from the other islands dotting the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean but it holds a plethora of magnificent secrets.
Kavaratti is one of the islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago off the Kerala coast situated in the convergence of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. The serene beauty of the island is enough to enthrall the travelers.
The turquoise waters of the Arabian Ocean converging with the cerulean waters of the Indian ocean present a mesmerizing scenario to the thirsty eyes. Leaning against a mildewed coconut tree trunk, simultaneously sipping into a freshly cut green coconut and watching the light froth on the strikingly tinged waves lapping the glistening boulders sweltering in the heat under the azure blue sky along the pristine, shady, sandy shores feels akin to pleasures of paradise.
The hot but windy, tropical climate of the island is also quite satisfactory for beach games. But these panoramic vistas are trivial as compared to the mostly unexplored coral treasures that the netherworld of Kavaratti offers to the passionate adventurers. The scuba diving facility provides a glimpse into the mystery of the deep, tranquil sea guarding the lonely isle.
As you take the plunge, a psychedelic world of colors will appear before your awed eyes. It is strongly reminiscent of an artist’s studio with gaudy splashes of color to being enwrapped in a natural aquarium with varied species of life all around you.
The clear, translucent surface of the waters refract the sparkling sunbeams and magically illuminate the opaque underwater region, where an array of pigmented fishes can be seen jauntily exploring their natural habitat, swirling, gliding across your fingertips, polished pebbles paved on the ocean floor and the kaleidoscopic corals of varied structures swaying rhythmically to the flows of the waves.
The cool touch of the water can always be relished when one feels tired and decides to wade. During the humid evenings, Kalariyapattu, the traditional martial arts dance form of the natives can be enjoyed along with a bite in the local snacks most of which are prepared from coconut.
The silent, moonlit nights are perfect for a contemplative walk on the soft, pale sands or a private reverie among the hidden boulevards of the isle. Hence, the capital of Lakshwadeep is the perfect getaway for a true nature – lover complete with a calm ambiance, restful atmosphere, breathtaking views, and astounding underwater flora and fauna.
