Taliban’s another PR move

In a surprising decree released by the Taliban government of Afghanistan on women’s right, it called upon to bring out a change in the society, by declaring that women should not be considered as a “property”, and their consent is must for a marriage. This turned out to be surprising because there has been no comment on women’s right to access education and work outside their home.

During its rule in 1996-200, Taliban was called on for its misogynist working, where women weren’t allowed to leave their homes without a male member of their house, and denied basic rights of education, and were forced to cover themselves fully. A Taliban spoke person was recorded saying, “the face of women is the source of corruption”.

After the most recent take-over of Taliban, the international government and severely scrutinized the Taliban government, by freezing the funds of Afghanistan to make them commit to women rights and human rights. All of the pressure was met with some ground-breaking responses, like the most historic interview, of a Taliban senior official was conducted by a female reporter Behesta Arghand.

The recent statement, “A women is not a property, but a noble and free human being; no one can give her to anyone in exchange of peace or to end animosity”, can be considered an another PR as in a situation of falling economy and shortage of food, the international community has set out criteria’s for any future engagement, with improved women and children condition being one.
