Rajasthan government declare Black Fungus as an epidemic

New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Rajasthan government announced Black Fungus as an epidemic. When Black Fungus affecting COVID-19 patients, it is turning into an epidemic. Black Fungus also known as Mucormycosis. 

A current number of Black Fungus cases in the state is 100. Also, a separate ward has been set up for treatment of this patient at Swami Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur. 

This fungal infection mainly affects when people who are on medication. It also can affect people when their immunity system is weak. This infection can cause death for COVID-19 patient. “Mucormycosis, if uncared for, may turn fatal. Sinuses or lungs of such individuals get affected after fungal spores are inheld from the air,” health department said earlier. 

“Mucormycosis has been notified as an epidemic and a notifiable disease in the state under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020”, read a notification by Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora. He also said, “this decision was taken to ensure integrated and coordinated treatment of Black Fungus and the coronavirus in the state”.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also held a meeting with officials for COVID-19 treatment on a war footing. In the last 24 hours Rajasthan recorded 8,398 new COVID-9 cases.
