One confirmed, and 12 suspected Omicron cases admitted to Delhi’s LNJP hospital
The Omicron variant, first detected in southern African countries, was stamped as a ‘variant of concern’ by the World Health Organisation last week. Later it’s samples of Omicron have been detected in several countries, and till date the total count down is close to 23 (no of countries) as per WHO survey. FIFTH OMICRON CASE IN INDIADelhi stood five in a row after Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra to report confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in Capital territory. On Sunday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain confirmed.
The patient, who returned from Tanzania, and is fully vaccinated has been admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital situated at Delhi Gate area, where a separate ward has been set up for Omicron patients as per the advice of Delhi Government.
Jain during press conference stated, “Until now, 17 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have been admitted to LNJP Hospital. Genome sequencing for twelve of these samples has been done. As per the preliminary report, one out of the twelve samples had the Omicron variant.
This patient has been isolated separately.”OTHER OMICRON CASES INDIAAn unvaccinated Dombivli resident who air backed from South Africa’s Cape Town via Dubai was detected with the Omicron variant on Saturday. This remarked the first confirmed Omicron case in Maharashtra state and fourth in India.Before that, one Omicron case was confirmed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar.
A 72-year-old who had travelled to Zimbabwe tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus.Other two confirmed cases, one of which is a South Africa returnee and an individual with no travel history were found to be infected with the Omicron variant in Karnataka.
MEASURES TO CONTROL COVID SPREAD IN DELHI
Health Minister Satyendar Jain upon precautions said, “In Delhi, the first dose of the vaccine has been given to more than 90 per cent of the eligible population and both doses have been administered to more than 60 per cent. The speed of vaccination has been increased, more than one lakh doses are being given daily. We are contacting people so that they get their second doses immediately.” And, Upon booster dose, we are in conversation with the experts or the central government, he added. Moreover, he predicted if situation will go like this then, “There may be a third wave in January or February. The third wave can be avoided if rules are strictly followed. It is necessary for everyone to wear a mask and avoid crowded places.” He added, “Flights should be stopped from countries affected by Omicron.”
