Odisha, Andhra on alert due to cyclone Jawad formation
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the formation of Cyclone Jawad, which may reach the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha by this Saturday. Recently, IMD said that Tuesday’s low pressure over south Thailand and its neighborhood emerged into the central Andaman Sea in the evening and persisted over the same region in the morning today.
As quoted “It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over southeast & adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow, the 2nd December and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over central parts of the Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.” Further, it is likely to move northwestwards, intensify and then reach near north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts by 4th December.

Rainfall
On Thursday, December 2, most areas will experience light to moderate rainfall, with isolated areas experiencing heavy rainfall. On December 3, the IMD forecasted light to moderate rain in many areas, with heavy rain in isolated areas over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha beginning in the evening.
Heavy rain was also reported in isolated areas across Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
Sea condition
On Wednesday, the sea will be rough to very rough over the Andaman Sea, along with and off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and in the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. From midnight on December 3, sea conditions will be rough to very rough along and off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, before becoming high to very high in the afternoon of December 4 for the next 12 hours. Fishermen should be cautious.
IMD has advised fishermen out at sea to return to the coast by Thursday morning.
They have also been advised not to enter the Andaman Sea on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as the southeast and adjacent to the east-central Bay of Bengal on December 2 and 3. MD also advised them not to travel to the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, from December 3 to December 5.
