New Delhi is planning to push its Chinese counterpart to exchange the maps in the Western sector after New Delhi completes it’s disengagement and de-escalation process. And the army returns to their former patrolling posts. This is a step to avoid any further escalation in the area by clearing the confusion regarding the Line of Actual Control.

This would ease management and patrolling protocols. Beijing has so far refused to exchange any maps of this sector. After numerous bilateral talks, China is reluctant to clarify the LAC.

This reluctance has raised suspicion that it wants to continue clashes in the area. The process of de-escalation is underway and will be over once troops and weapons of both sides are moved backward from the ‘depth area’, under strict Indian scrutiny. The process is expected to take months.
