Mumbai’s first FIR filed for not wearing mask

BMC on Wednesday filed the first FIR against a person for not wearing a mask on Wednesday, under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which the government uses against those who violate lockdown rules under the Epidemic Diseases Act.
M-West (Chembur) ward officials spotted a biker identified as Rahul Wankhede, who was not wearing a mask. When he refused to cough up the penalty, stating his Covid-19 test report was negative and remained defiant despite BMC officials convincing him for about half an hour, he was hauled to Govandi police station and booked for not wearing a mask.
BMC has so penalized over 40,000 people for not wearing masks and collected over Rs 1 crore in fines during the pandemic.
