Kerala farmer grew pearls in his backyard

The farmer of Kerala at Kasargod has broken the big myth that pearls could only be found in oysters in the ocean because he has successfully cultivated pearls in the pond in his backyard. He has been harvesting pearls for the last two decades by using freshwater mussels that are sourced from the river originating in the western ghat. The cultivated pearls are harvested after 18 months. It is exported to countries like  Australia, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, and can be earned up to 4.5 lakh.
