Today, the Japanese Emperor Naruhito marked the 75th anniversary of their surrender in the Second World War and has expressed deep remorse over his country’s wartime actions. The ceremony was attended by 500 people, a drastic decrease from last year’s attendance of 6200, due to the pandemic.

Emperor Naruhito has pledged to never allow the tragedy of the war to be repeated. Japan had fought the war in the former Emperor Hirohito’s name, Emperor Naruhito’s grandfather. Shockingly there was no word of remorse from Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe who rather praised the Japanese war dead for their sacrifices.
