Government to decide on the minimum age of marriage for girls

The government is likely to decide on revising the minimum age of marriage for girls after it received a report by a committee set up for this purpose. “There is an important deliberation going on to decide what should be the ideal age of marriage for daughters,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while addressing a video conference.

In his Independence Day speech, the prime minister had announced that the government was deliberating on what should be the minimum age of marriage for women and has set up a committee to look into the matter.

Experts suggest that the minimum age of the girls to get married should be increased to 21 as 18 years is not the perfect time for a girl to marry and bear children.
