Delhi riots: First Conviction
Communal tension burst out in northeastern part of Delhi earlier in February 2020 after a differentiation logjam between supporters and competitors of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
That went out of control in a destructive manner resulted in death of at least 53 people, and more than 700 people got injured, including the populace and armed people.
They rallied up to spread anti-religion slogans and agendas to destroy, assault or harm people of other communities.Many people booked against spreading violence, tampering with evidence and public properties, etc. Meanwhile, Images of Shahrukh Pathan, a 26-Year-old man pointing a gun at Delhi police’s head constable Deepak Dahiya were widely circulated on social media. He was later booked on March 3, 2020, and is currently lodged in Tihar jail.
He has been charged under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. Some momentous charges were also edged under sections 353 (assault), 307 (murder attempt) glance with section 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of a common offence) of the IPC and various sections of the Arms Act, to which he pleaded ‘not guilty’ and was sent for trails.At present, Pathan had craved discharge from sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC on the grounds that he had no intention to kill the officer and was unaware that section 144 of the CrPC was still impetus.On Tuesday, during additional sessions, judge Amitabh Rawat charged Pathan with an attempt to murder, assault, and obstructing public servants in the discharge of duty under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act on February 24, 2020.Parallel Incident Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhatt convicted Dinesh Yadav under sections of rioting and arson of the IPC. This is the first conviction in a Northeast Delhi riots case, where a man was booked for trespassing into a woman’s home and setting it on fire on February 25, 2020.The next hearing will be on December 22.
The outlaw person is facing additional duo riot cases. This is the second judgement passed in a riots case — the first was given in July in which the court acquitted a 27-year-old man accused of looting a shop, thinking it belonged to a Muslim man.This brutal incident labelled as breaking news hit TRP hard; many stood up to ink it. The Untold Story’ was published from ground research material on the Delhi Riots in February 2020. The authors and their team collected this material during their many visits to the riot-affected areas of North East Delhi. The research team met both Hindu and Muslim victims of the violence and religious leaders of both communities who attempted to escalate the situation.
The book contains eight chapters that narrate the fact and evidence-based story of the dharna-to-danga model, planned and executed by Urban Naxal and Jihadi elements in Delhi.
The book features narratives from Hindu and Muslim victims, stories of the Dalits who were brutalised in unimaginable ways, maps showing the insidious Urban-Naxal-Jihadi model of rioting, FIRs of properties that were burnt and wrecked, and the postmortem reports of Ankit Sharma and Ratan Lal, which portray their brutal killings.One of the book’s main themes is the destruction of inter-community relations in North East Delhi in the garb of Anti-CAA protests. It exposes the plot behind the violence, how it was planned and how the events unfolded.
The book contains details on the circumstances of 23rd February 2020 in Jaffrabad, which laid the ground for full-fledged communal riots in the area on the next day. It shows how a Genocide was committed in North East Delhi under cover of women’s empowerment. The book uncovers the Urban-Naxal-Jihadi theories in their documents and literature. The reader must be read because it shows the citizens of this country how fanatic ideologies are compromising their internal security.
