26 November is celebrated as constitution day in India and this day is also known as Samvidhan  Divas. The adoption took place on November 26, 1949, but came into effect on January 26, 1950. The passing of the constitution was greeted by banging the desk and met a loud cheer back on  November 26, 1949.

It was drafted by a six-member committee headed by Dr Br Ambedkar. The observation of the constitution day of India started in 2015, based on the vision of the Prime Minister to give importance to this day. The rest of this vision can also be traced back to the “Samvidhan Gaurav  Yatra” organised by the then Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2010.

Hon’ble President of India Venkaiah Naidu will be leading the celebration of constitution day live from the central hall of parliament from 11.00 am onwards. Hon‘ble Vice President, Hon’ble Prime  Minister Narendra Modi, Hon’ble speaker, Minister, MPs and other dignitaries will make an appearance.

The celebration will be live on various TV channels and online portals. The whole of India will be part of this celebration. After the speech of the Hon‘ble President, the nation will join them live in reading the constitution.

Two portals have been developed by the ministry of parliamentary affairs.

• Portal for reading the preamble to the constitution in 23 languages

• Portals for online quiz on constitutional democracy.

• mpa.gov.in/constitution-day

These portals will be accessible to everyone to participate and will get a certificate.
