Complete lockdown in Chennai: Tamil Nadu reimposes restrictions in 4 districts from June 19-20

As coronavirus cases continue to soar in Tamil Nadu, the state government has reimposed a complete lockdown in four districts from June 19 to June 30.

A complete lockdown will be imposed in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram for 12 days.

Certain relaxations will be provided for essential services. Hospitals, testing centers, labs, and medical-related activities will remain functioning.

Flight and train services will remain operational as per protocol. However, rental cabs and auto-rickshaws will not be allowed to ply for the period except for emergency cases. The authorities have appealed to people not to commute using vehicles and also to buy essential items from shops within a 2 km radius.

Government offices will operate with a 33 percent workforce while those employees in containment zones will be asked not to report to work.

Banks will be operational on June 29 and 30.

The government has allowed grocery and vegetable shops to function from 6 am to 2 pm. Shops selling essential commodities shops and mobile shops will also be allowed to function between 6 am and 2 pm.

Hotel and restaurants can function from 6 am to 8 pm but only takeaway services will be allowed. Tea shops will also not be permitted to open. Amma canteens and community kitchens will continue to remain open.

Permission will be granted to caretakers of the ill, differently-abled as well as the elderly to commute in these districts.

Apart from this, there will be a complete shutdown on the two Sundays that fall within this period i.e. June 21 and June 28. No shops will be allowed to open on these two days.
