August news gives West Bengal a ray of hope

More than half of the 1, 21,046 COVID patients admitted to the hospitals in the states since it was the beginning of the pandemic, were discharged in August.

The number of discharges of this month is 72,672 has increased the total cases for this month which is around 67,995 on Thursday. The discharge rate in Bengal has gone up to 80%.

A team of doctors which was set by the health department has been visiting COVID wards of different hospitals, and they are identifying the patients who are overstaying in the hospital and by giving them permission of discharge so that beds are free for patients who need them more.

Bed occupancy in some government facilities in the city has been decreased by 50% below. They have found that patients in every COVID hospital who are absolutely fine and fit for discharge are still occupying the beds.

These beds should be available to patients who really need hospital care. In the initial stage, there was a scarcity of beds that could be wiped off only after the number of discharges increased which was said by the gastroenterologist Gopal Krishna Dhali who is the head of the School of Digestive and Liver Diseases at SSKM Hospital.
