A minor sexually assaulted by former Chairman of Sikkim Tourism

A 13-year-old girl hailing from a remote village had been staying at the house Rup Narayan Rai, for her education. Rai, who is a former chairman of the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation had assaulted the minor on several occasions, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint against him in the Meli police station.
Following the complaint, Rai had been escaping, police have booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012(POCSO).
It wasn’t until Monday that he surrendered himself. The Sikkim Democratic Front under whose Government, he was working, has suspended him.
