Petrol demand at 92% of the year-ago period

India’s fuel demand has started rising up after faltering in July, with petrol consumption nearly reaching 92% a year ago but diesel consumption is continuously draining due to widespread rains, floods, and the local lockdowns in industrialized states.
The latest data shows that in August petrol sales rising to 2140tmt, an increase in 6% from the July volume as the lockdown eased and people are more opting for personal vehicles to get around.
But diesel sales, a key indicator of economic activity, as it is mainly used in farm, transport, and construction sector dropped to 4257tmt, or 12% lower than July.
